are to be commenced in the coming year are quarters for
signalmen at Green Island ($4,600), rendered necessary by
complaints of the unsuitability of the existing matshed
accommodation, a mortuary at Kowloon ($8,000) and shelters
for dust carts ($5,000) recommended by the Sanitary Autho-

proposed to expend the aggregate sum of $100,000 allotted
to Survey and Preliminary Work for the Railway to Canton
and to new roads in the New Territories. The extension
East and West of the Conduit Road has been urged on me as
giving better means of communication for some existing
buildings and as opening up valuable sites for new build-
-ings on the highest level of the City of Victoria. Plans
showing the course of the road accompanies this Despatch.
The provision in the Estimates for extending Robinson Road
($30,000) is for continuing to the North the work referred
to in paragraph 7 of my Despatch No. 346 dated 20th. Sep-
